Rocky and the Bully

Written by Mary Aggas

Illustrated by Jose

Author Mary Aggas’s lifelong love for horses gallops into her latest children’s story, Rocky and the Bully, where Rocky, a Miniature Horse, wakes up every morning to find Raven, a full-sized horse, eating Rocky’s breakfast. Raven is the barnyard bully who uses his size to intimidate the other animals.

Rocky and the Bully is a classic tale of standing up for yourself, but it feels fresh with words that flow simply on the page. The story trots out a lesson about emotional intelligence in a way children will enjoy and remember. Rocky and the Bully is author Mary Aggas’s second children’s book centered around horses, and hopefully it’s not the last time she will canter into the children’s literary arena.

Jose’s art provides wonderful motion to the book, keeping young, wandering attention spans focused on the story as it unfolds.

Wishes & Whinnies: Tyler's Dream

Written by Mary Aggas

Illustrated by Nadezhda

Written by an author with 20 years of experience with therapeutic horsemanship, this story is about hope, resilience, and thinking outside the box to follow your passions.

Tyler's disability is presented with sensitivity and knowledge, and his determination and self-confidence will inspire any reader who wonders if they'll be able to follow their dreams. In addition to offering inspiration, the story provides instruction on how therapeutic riding works and what readers can expect if they try it for themselves. Cheerful illustrations complement the uplifting tone of the story, while the short sentences and emphasis on dialogue help to support developing readers. Wishes & Whinnies: Tyler's Dream is a fantastic story for any reader who needs some reassurance that disability does not need to mean inability.
