Why I wrote
Rocky And The Bully

Bullying has existed for generations, but electronic devices have expanded the reach and impact of this growing societal challenge. I wrote Rocky and the Bully as a children’s picture book because the earlier we can start talking to our kids about bullying the sooner we can teach them empowerment and confidence to handle the situation when they see it or experience it.

Bullying can start very young. Even preschool and elementary school students can experience name-calling, exclusion, and intimidation. Rocky and the Bully teaches kids to have empathy for victims of bullies. When they understand how words and actions can affect others, they are more likely to be kind, include others, and stand up for them. They learn to be upstanders, not silent bystanders.

My hope is this book will start conversations between kids and the adults in their lives about bullying before it happens to them.

Why I wrote
WISHES & WHINNIES

Many children's books are currently being written about children facing physical challenges, but my research has shown a lack of books involving  equine assisted therapy for kids with physical or emotional challenges. Therapeutic horseback riding (also called adaptive riding) has proven benefits for this population. (You can read more about it at https://pathintl.org/benefits-of-eas.) Partnering with horses fosters long-term advantages for social, emotional, cognitive, and self-esteem healing. My hope is to get the word out about this valuable therapy in an entertaining read that kids will enjoy over and over again!
